International Student Support
Welcome to Your Home Away From Home
After all your planning and anticipation, you're finally in New York!
Arriving in a new country can seem as uncertain as it is exciting. What things are done differently here and what's the same? How will you find the places you need? How will you find friends and start to feel at home?
We understand what you might be feeling. And at the Office of International Education, we're here to make sure that you don't have to figure it all out on your own.
We're here to help you adjust to college and life in the U.S., assist with any questions regarding your visa or immigration, and welcome you into NYIT's strong multicultural community through social events throughout the year.

Making New Friends
International Student Ambassadors
Among the first people you'll meet when you arrive for orientation are our International Student Ambassadors. These are upper classmen from countries around the world who were once new to NYIT, just like you, not so long ago. They speak your language. They know where you're coming from in more ways than one. And they're here to support and encourage you, one on one, throughout your time at NYIT.
A great way to honor your home country and culture while you're here, and learn about someone else's, is to get involved in our Conversation Partners program. You'll make close friends, have fun, and maybe even practice a foreign language (like American English!) as it's really spoken.
Our NYIT community is made up of students from around the world. Conversation Partners pairs you with a fellow student either from the U.S. or one of 100 other countries. You'll meet on or near campus once a week, or more often if you choose, to talk about topics of mutual interest in an informal setting. You'll also be invited to monthly gatherings with all of your fellow Conversation Partners.

International Student Association
The International Student Association (ISA) is a group of American and international students who get together to learn about each other's cultures, celebrate the diversity of our community via campus-wide events, and help international students feel at home at NYIT.
We meet weekly for shared activities, conversation, and cultural exchange. We trade stories and information about navigating the college experience. We go on field trips and we organize campus-wide celebrations and events that bring the whole community together in recognition of the rich cultural mix of the NYIT student body.
To join ISA in Old Westbury, contact Karen Johnson at email@example.com.
To join the Global Exchange Organization (GEO) or ISA in Manhattan, please contact Christopher Olagunju at firstname.lastname@example.org.
