Dr. Makofsky visits orphanage in West Africa

Dr. Howard Makofsky, Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at NYIT, recently visited the Paradise Orphanage in Burkina Faso, West Africa.  Through his non-profit organization, Kaya's Kids, Inc., Dr. Makofsky and his family provided funding for the establishment of the orphanage in 2008, which is now the home of 120 West African children.  Not only are the children's physical needs provided for, but there is also an elementary school on the campus in addition to having a registered nurse provide medical care on a monthly basis.  Pictured with Dr. Makofsky is Mr. Len Veitch, a volunteer from Ontario, Canada and Mr. Georges Sawadogo, the builder and director of the Paradise Orphanage.

International Educational Conference

2nd year DPT student Jonathan Pekor has been selected as a delegate from NYIT to attend the Education Without Borders Conference in Dubai, UAE in March 2011. "This conference is a biennial international student conference that creates networks across cultures in order to understand, and generate solutions for, some of the world's greatest challenges. The conference achieves this end by engaging the world's most innovative students and leaders in the business, technology, education and humanitarian sector in a collaborative forum that culminates in a commitment to action." (EWB) Over 3700 applications were received.

3rd year Physical Therapy DPT student Christopher Estafanous was selected to be a student delegate at the New York Physical Therapy Association's Board of Directors meeting held in Troy, NY January 28-29, 2011.
