Girl Rising

Game Night Every Friday, NYIT's chapter of the Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity hosts a gaming event at 8:30 p.m. at 26 W. 61st St., basement gaming room, Manhattan campus.

Yoga and Pilates Classes Get fit with free yoga and pilates classes hosted by NYIT Athletics on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:45-1:45 p.m. in Recreation Hall, Old Westbury campus. Bring your own mat (at least a half-inch thick), towel, and water bottle, and dress in workout gear, not street clothing.

Girl Rising Documentary Watch a film about nine girls from different parts of the world who have overcome injustices on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. at 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium, NYIT-Manhattan.

Professional Enrichment Events Jumpstart your career by attending professional enrichment seminars at NYIT's New York campuses. View a schedule and mark your calendar for the next seminar:

  • Bloomberg Basics: Friday, Oct. 18, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Wisser Library Reference Desk, NYIT-Old Westbury. You will be introduced to the basic functions of the Bloomberg Terminal, a useful resource for a career in finance.

NYIT Fed Challenge You're invited to a presentation on economics, interest rates, and financial market outlook by NYIT's 2013 Fed Challenge Team on Oct. 18, noon-2 p.m. at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, Garden Room, Old Westbury campus. Lunch will be served. For more information, call 516.686.7920.

Free Flick On Wednesday, Oct. 23, watch Brian De Palma's film Hi, Mom! Show time is 5:30 p.m. at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, room 102 (The Soundstage), Old Westbury campus. Refreshments will be served.

Citation Workshops Stressing out over citations? Come to citation workshops where NYIT librarians will show you how to use RefWorks to manage and cite your sources.

Paws for Parkinson's Event Join the American Parkinson Disease Association on Sunday, Oct. 27, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, N.Y. Activities include a one-mile walk and Halloween Hounds doggie costume contest. There will be prizes, raffles, and giveaways, and refreshments will be served. All money raised will fund Parkinson's research. Cost is $25, and each registrant receives a T-shirt (while supplies last). Walk with or without a dog. Life Sciences Advising Workshop Learn about what you can do with a life sciences degree after graduation on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 12:45-2:10 p.m. at 16 W. 61st St., room 822, NYIT-Manhattan. Guest Speaker is Michael Hadjiargyrou, chair of the Department of Life Sciences. Topics will include MCAT, GRE, DAT, and career prospects. Event is hosted by the NYIT Advising and Enrichment Center. STEAM Fairs Students majoring in science, technology, engineering, architecture, and math (STEAM) subjects should attend career fairs, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 31 in Manhattan (16 W. 61 St., 11th Floor Auditorium) and Thursday, Nov. 7 in Old Westbury (Sports Complex).

Smart Grid Technologies and Opportunities David Leopold and Bruce Germano of EC Infosystems will give the presentation, "Smart Grid Technologies and Opportunities," on Monday, Nov. 4, 7-8:30 p.m. in Theobald Hall, room 411, NYIT-Old Westbury. Cut 'n' Paste: From Architectural Assemblage to Collage City Architectural renderings created for NYIT's design of a recycling center in Costa Rica will be included in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art through Sunday, Dec. 1 at 11 W. 53 St., New York City. Read more.
