Campus Connections Corner: Your Guide to October at NYIT

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and support breast cancer awareness in October. This edition of the Campus Connections Corner features plenty of fun, free events coming up at NYIT's New York campuses, including:

Tuesday, Oct. 8

Event: Hispanic Heritage Grab n' Go
Time: 12:45-2:10 p.m.
Location: Academic Quad, NYIT-Old Westbury
Stop by to fiesta with NYIT's Campus Programming Board and taste free Hispanic food on the go!

Event: Meet the CSC
Time: 12:45-2:10 p.m.
Location: Bear's Den, NYIT-Old Westbury
The Community Service Center (CSC) will discuss what it does and how to change your community for the better. There will be plenty of information such as brochures and current volunteer positions. You'll also be able to register to vote and sign petitions.

Thursday, Oct. 10

Event: Comedy Night
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Bear's Den, NYIT-Old Westbury
Enjoy a night filled with laughs and free dinner. See comics Erik Rivera, Luis Gomez, and Ricky Velez.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

Event: Hispanic Heritage Poet - Carlos Andres Gomez
Time: 12:45-2:10 p.m.
Location: Bear's Den, NYIT-Old Westbury
NYIT's Campus Programming Board and Sigma Iota Alpha chapter proudly present Carlos Andres Gomez as their Hispanic Heritage Month speaker. Refreshments will be served.

Event: Nets vs. Celtics
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Barclays Center, 620 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y.
Get seats for a showdown between two top basketball teams. Cost is $10. Register for tickets.
Tickets will be available for pickup on Oct. 10, 11, 14, and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the front desk of the Office of Campus Life at NYIT-Old Westbury.

Saturday, Oct. 19

Event: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Time: 1 p.m.
Location: Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, New York City
View one of William Shakespeare's most famous plays. Cost is $20. Reserve your tickets.

Thursday, Oct. 21

Event: The LuLu Sessions
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, NYIT-Manhattan 
Attend a screening of the award-winning documentary, The LuLu Sessions, followed by a Q&A with its director, Casper Wong. The film tells the story of Dr. Louise M. Nutter (aka LuLu), a larger-than-life scientist and beloved professor who devoted her life to cancer research, when she was diagnosed with final stage breast cancer herself at age 42. Event is free for NYIT students. Reserve your tickets.

Event: Michael Kent Comedy and Magic Show
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Bear's Den, NYIT-Old Westbury
NYIT's Campus Programming Board presents the talented Michael Kent, who will take the stage and amaze all with his humor and misdirection. Dinner will be served.

Event: Halloween Grab n' Go
