In order to provide a healthy, safe, and comfortable environment, NYIT is introducing pilot smoke-free zones at its New York campuses. The new smoke-free zones in outdoor areas of each New York campus will be launched in the beginning of the spring 2013 semester.

During winter break, 15 architecture students will spend some time installing a roof and walls on a Costa Rican recycling center designed by their NYIT colleagues nearly a year ago. Their labor will build on construction that began on the center in summer 2012.

Communications arts major Vinny Caccavale is an ace on and off the soccer field. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has named the NYIT junior as a Scholar All-America for its 2012 College Division.

Students in NYIT graduate programs in energy management and environmental technology recently attended a tour of the Town of Hempstead (N.Y.) Energy Park, which includes a windmill, a geothermal system, a solar carport, a hydrogen/CNG refueling station, and the 2007 NYIT Solar Decathlon House.
