Students, faculty, and staff members at NYIT’s New York campuses shared information, provided support in the form of safety measures and coordinated activities, and offered their expertise to help those most vulnerable to the impacts of Hurricane Sandy. The storm, which struck the New York metro area on Oct. 29, left a trail of devastation in its wake. Members of the NYIT community stayed safe and informed, thanks to precautions taken by the university and round-the-clock efforts to restore campus life to normal operations in the hurricane’s aftermath. ...more

NYIT Architects Announce Kickstarter Campaign for Roofing Project NYIT architecture professors and students have launched a kickstarter campaign to raise money for constructing a model of their patented water bottle roofing system, with the goal of raising $32,500 by Thursday, Nov. 15. The project began in 2011, when the team designed a Soda Bottle Interface Bracket (short for SodaBIB), a key element of the roofing system, and NYIT later received a provisional patent for it. The team soon realized SodaBIB's potential for business partnerships and providing emergency shelter for people in developing countries. ...more
