Is your Email running slow? Feeling sluggish? It is time for some spring-cleaning!

Let’s start with your NYIT email account. As your mailbox gets full and reaches the allotted quota, your ability to send & receive mail slows down.

QUICK AND EASY CLEANING:  (this takes less than 2 minutes to do)
  • Empty your:
    •  Junk mail folder
    • Deleted mail folder
  • How do you empty the folders? :  Just right click on the folder  and then select:
“Empty “Junk Mail” /”Deleted items” folder

Lighten the load: (this takes about 3 minutes)
If you haven’t searched for or needed that email in a year you probably don’t need it...so let’ s get rid of the last year(s) your Inbox and Sent items and Sent mail folders.

  • Sort your inbox by date **
  • Scroll down to this same time LAST YEAR…and ask yourself... “Why am I keeping this old stuff?” If the answer is I have no idea, then:

**How do I sort my Inbox or my Sent mail items by date?
  • Click on Received (or Size –see below)
  • Click Sort Ascending
  • Check to make sure you scroll bar is at the top your inbox to be sure  the oldest emails are at the top of the window
  • Hold down the SHIFT key and then click on the first email message
  • Scroll down to the last message that you want to delete ( all the messages in between are highlighted and selected)
  • Hit the DELETE button (or right-click and select DELETE)

If you are "on a roll", and like the feeling of lightening the load, here is the ultimate cleanse:

Delete the BIG, unwanted, unneeded items in your mailbox (takes about 3 minutes)
  • Sort your inbox by size ** then look at the top files on the list: (remember to use the scroll bar to make sure you are at the top of the list – they are the largest files)
  •  If you no longer want it, simply hit the DELETE button
  •  If you do want to keep it:   save the enormous, huge, very large and large email attachments to your personal share drive (Z;| drive) and  then delete  the original mail
  • How do I save my email on my personal share drive ( also known as the Z:\ drive)
    • Click on the email you want to save
    • Click on FILE at the menu bar
    •  Click on Save As and select your Z:\ drive which is listed with your account name
    • Click Save
