There will be discussion of an effort to clean houses starting on Friday, Nov. 9 and long-term service ideas.

Emergency Cash for Students

Small cash grants are available to students facing a short-term emergency situation. Students can apply to the dean of students in Old Westbury, Manhattan, and NYCOM. The funds will be dispensed by the Office of the Bursar upon receipt of a properly authorized voucher.

In addition, the Offices of Campus Life, Counseling, International Education, and Career Services are staffing a table outside of Harry Schure Hall as a resource for students. Feel free to stop by and enjoy a hot beverage, if you prefer this approach to calling or emailing the Sandy hotline.

Donate Items for Hurricane Victims at Thanksgiving Luncheon

Save the date for a Thanksgiving luncheon hosted by the Community Service Center (CSC) at NYIT-Manhattan on Thursday, Nov. 15, 12:45-2:10 p.m. at 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium. The CSC will create a board or stand similar to those used during the holidays, where individuals or groups can select an item to donate. Items collected at this year's luncheon will benefit people affected by Hurricane Sandy.

New Hurricane Relief Emergency Center Open at Farmingdale State College

In an extraordinary Long Island joint effort among several major social service and non-profit agencies and other organizations through LI VOAD (Voluntary Organization Assisting in Disaster), a brand new initiative called “Health & Human Services One Stop Relief to Recovery” will offer critical services and items all in one location to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. Visitors will have access to food, water, blankets, financial and legal advice, mental health care, Internet capabilities and other services.
