I like American culture. I am interested in communicating with others throughout the world. I want to know what others think, and to make friends with them.
Differences between American professors and Chinese professors
Chinese teachers tell us how to solve the equations, but there is no communication between us during the class. They focus on the exam. American teachers like communication during the class. They focus more on behavior and understanding before the exam.
Favorite thing about the NYIT Center for Humanities and Culture at NUPT
We have a group called “English Corner,” which helps us a lot with our English and to know more about American culture. At the start of the semester, Professor David Oliver asked us to come up with some topics we are interested in, and every two weeks, we choose one and talk about it. Professor Oliver gathers information about the topics, such as medical insurance or humor. Then we talk about how the topic relates to American culture. Since we will go to New York to finish our degrees, we will need to know.
Reflections on American culture
American culture has a more direct way to convey feelings, passions, and opinions. When I was listening to the music of the Cajun musicians, for example, I had the feeling that they were talking to me. It makes me come up with ideas of the stories they are telling.
