My experience at NYIT has been a positive one. I am part of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) and lucky for me, the summer before my freshman year I took part in a summer program where I was able to meet and interact with other students. This allowed for a smooth transition to college because I already knew people.
I am a nursing major and that demands a lot of work and attention. HEOP counselors are always helpful when I come to them with questions. I have great teachers and fellow students are friendly and interactive. I participate in activities whenever I can because they are opportunities to meet new people and learn about NYIT.
My work experiences have also been good. My first position was working in the academic computer lab. My supervisors were helpful in teaching me new skills. I liked working there, but I wanted to try something new the following semester. I am now working with Deepa Bhalla, director of HEOP, to assist her office. Like my other supervisors, Deepa has been tremendous. She tells me what I need to complete and I perform each task efficiently. For example, I keep the computer lab clean and help to provide an environment where students can study and feel comfortable. I love going to work and getting things done, and hope to continue this job throughout my college stay.
Until I graduate with my bachelor's degree in nursing, I will continue to strive for the best and not let anything keep me from achieving my goals. I know that with determination and the help of the NYIT community, I will succeed.
