Campus: Old Westbury Major: Occupational Therapy, B.S./M.S.
Thu Ha "Gracie" Le is secretary for the Student Government Association (SGA) during the 2013-2014 academic year at NYIT-Old Westbury. She is the recipient of an NYIT President's Scholarship.
Why study at NYIT?
Its location in New York and because it offers the best possible education. There are many different departments on campus, making opportunities accessible to NYIT students. I'm enjoying this memorable college experience.
As a high school student, I sometimes participated in events and looked up to the upperclassmen in the student council for their responsibility of helping others. At NYIT, I thought, why not join SGA? It might be fun. I became a junior senator, and the experience encouraged me to put myself out there and show my full potential.
As SGA secretary, I will continue to listen to my fellow students' opinions about NYIT and together find a way to make it even better. My goal is to make SGA more approachable to students and increase our current level of activity. We need more outreach dedicated to talking to, recognizing, and motivating students to engage in opportunities on campus. Many individuals have "latent" abilities, and all they need is a push to succeed.
In addition to SGA, I serve as the external relations and community development coordinator for the NYIT-Old Westbury Community Service Center, a resident assistant for the Office of Housing and Residential Life, and a member of the International Student Association.
Every step that I've taken toward my academic goals, all the support from the NYIT community, and how far I've progressed in the classroom and extracurricular efforts.
My roles at NYIT require a lot of interaction with the student body and being an outgoing person. However, I really enjoy spending my spare time watching a movie or just relaxing in my own personal space.
I'm inspired by what I don't know and I like to explore new things. I enjoy being able to say, "Wow, I didn't know that." It motivates me to learn more, act more, and live more.
Reading, listening to music, trying new things, and sleeping in whenever I can.
