Why study at NYIT?
Because I prefer to learn in an environment that features smaller class sizes. The School of Engineering and Computing Sciences has received recognition from the U.S. Department of Defense and other well-known organizations. This shows that NYIT has potential to be an innovative university now and in the future.
As a member of NYIT's Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) student chapter, I've helped to program the group's Vex Robot. I'm also the app manager for The Campus Slate and have developed the newspaper's mobile apps for Windows 8, Windows Phones, and Android devices. They are available to download on the Google Play Store, Windows Store, and Windows 8 AppStore.
I've attended Microsoft sessions for aspiring software engineers and have learned to use pre-written code to enhance applications that are in development. We were told the new way to develop applications is to think like your end user. In other words, imagine yourself as the end user, using an application that someone else developed.
Leading an interdisciplinary team of students to successfully develop and release mobile applications for The Campus Slate and working with IEEE members to create NYIT's first Java programming guide as a mobile app for the Windows phone platform during the spring 2012 semester.
Work for Microsoft as an evangelist developer or start a software company.
I like to think "out of the box." For example, when my team was designing the Windows 8 app for The Campus Slate, we all found some inspiration from another app that played episodes of Tom and Jerry cartoons.
My family, especially my father. He is an electrical engineer for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has taught me that with a positive attitude and diligent work ethic, people can go far.
NYIT Assistant Professor Jack Wu has also helped me to achieve all that I have so far. He was able to recognize my abilities to create software that people can use and to work with others as a project manager. He pushed me to do more than my very best, and I'm glad to have had him as an instructor.
Favorite tech gadget
Lumia 920 Windows Phone. The one app that I absolutely cannot live without is the Microsoft Office app. My phone has the mobile version of the latest Microsoft Office suite, and I've used it to complete various class assignments.
Music and robotics. I have learned about Indian classical music for about eight years, and I'm always in touch with this rich art. Also, I have been mentoring Carle Place (N.Y.) High School's FIRST Robotics Team. I graduated from the high school and am enjoying the experience of mentoring future engineers.
