Class Of: 2014
Campus: Manhattan
Major: Communication Arts, B.F.A.
I was born in Jamaica and immigrated to the United States at the age of two with my parents and sister. I grew up in Roosevelt, N.Y. and have lived there my whole life since. After graduating from Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School in 2010, I decided to continue my studies at New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan. I had never dreamed of being in the city for college, but it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I now have a love for the fast paced lifestyle of a New Yorker.
I am extremely involved on campus and in my community. I look for various opportunities to help out in the community and make a change. I was recently chosen to attend the NCSL (National Center for Student Leadership) annual conference, which was held this year in Miami, F.L. I am also the president of a new club at the Manhattan campus called S.W.A.G, which stand for Students Working to Achieve Greatness. S.W.A.G. is comprised of overall confidence, style, and demeanor, and does not discriminate against one’s sex, religion, and/or ethnicity. The organization hopes to reach beyond the borders of the college and into the local community by means of being involved in different charitable events and helping out in the community, all with a goal of making a change. I also plan on helping with another organization called “See the Change” that focuses on donating clothes, food, and other necessities to unfortunate individuals and families both here and overseas. The organization brings photos and videos of the reactions of gratitude back to the community, school, college, or other kind of group that donated the products to show them they have made a change. In this way, they can “see the change” that they have made.
I plan to continue my studies at NYIT until the day I graduate in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts, focusing on advertising and marketing. After I graduate, I plan to attend graduate school. My hope is that I will find a successful career in the marketing or advertising industry.
