Mohammad Mondol Jackson Heights, N.Y. Class Of: 2016
Campus: Manhattan Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering, B.S.
My name is Mohammad Mondol. I am a sophomore majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Engineering is something my parents had urged me to consider since I was a child. I have always been interested in building things. I used to tell my parents I wanted to be an inventor and build a time machine. Legos were my favorite toy, and I have always been exceptionally good in math. I was also interested in electricity growing up. The idea of manipulating light fascinated me. Many people were recommending engineering as a possible career option, so I decided to look into it. I decided to learn more about electrical engineering as a future career field.
My time at NYIT so far has been a wonderful experience. I have been part of Academic Computing Services (ACS) since my freshmen year. The ACS department is dedicated to supporting the faculty and students using technology on campus. Some of the skills I have gained from working at ACS are customer service and how to be a productive part of a team. I am also currently a Peer Advisor for the Academic Enrichment Center. I support students with matters related to advisement and registration, including the explanation of degree requirements and the future planning of their coursework. I have gained a lot of experience through peer advising such as strong leadership and communication skills. I am also currently the treasurer of Phi Eta Sigma, a national honor society devoted to encouraging and rewarding academic excellence among freshmen in institutions of higher learning. I am very active around campus, and I thank HEOP for such opportunities.
