From NYIT's Weekly Update:
Luc-Philippe Paulemon is an integral part of the IT team that provides a full spectrum of technology support services at NYIT. He understands – as both a professional and a student – the power of technology as an educational tool. Known for his personable and easygoing style, Luc has the ability to make technology understandable to all. He has a background in computer science, has earned a bachelor’s degree in media studies and a master’s degree in public affairs, and is now pursuing a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from NYIT.
What projects are you working on?
I am leading the development of the User Support Services Web pages, which include information about the Help Desk, telecommunications, account request forms, documentation, guides and tutorials, and more. The goal is to provide updated information for our users. This project allows me to expand on my Web development knowledge and exercise my design skills for online publishing.
What future projects are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to improving our guides and tutorials page, as well as adding a video training blog on topics such as how to create an e-mail account for new staff and faculty members or how to set proxy settings for all major browsers on the campuses. We want to make our Web site a portal for training resources, documentation, and forms.
What is the one technological invention you could not live without?
I could not live without my cell phone! It is my gateway to communication and e-mail when I’m not at my computer.
What are some of your favorite books and movies?
My favorite book is Interface Culture by Steven A. Johnson. It discusses how we create a relationship with the digital world using the interface and avatars. My favorite movies are The Matrix and Enemy of the State. These are powerful because they show how technology can be used in society to do good or create fear.
What do you like to do when you’re not at NYIT?
I enjoy learning about new technologies such as widgets, Web programming, and social networks, as well as listening to WNYC and NPR News.
