Why did you choose NYIT?
Because it has the best school counseling program in the area. Program Chairperson Carol Dahir, Ed.D., is known across the world for her work in the field. It's an honor to have her as a professor and mentor.
Activities and internships
Graduate intern in the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development at NYIT-Old Westbury.
Vice president of Chi Sigma Iota, NYIT's school counseling honor society.
Intern at West Hempstead (N.Y.) Middle and High School to complete hours for my M.S. in school counseling.
My NYIT experience
NYIT has fulfilled my expectations and allowed me to learn and grow as a student and professional. Being a graduate assistant is just a piece of NYIT's amazing opportunities for students.
I tried out for American Idol when I was 18 and made it to the second round.
As a 2012 Miss Long Island Pageant sponsorship award winner and delegate, I advocated for young girls to have a positive body image and self-esteem. My experiences at NYIT have confirmed that I can continue this work through a career in school counseling.
Advice to students applying to college
What you choose to major in is not "set in stone." Do your research and use the tools available to you. Don't give up on your career aspirations. If you really want something, you can make it happen!
