Reflecting back to middle school and high school; I had my eye on NYIT since eighth grade. I was always ambitious about journalism and writing news articles for the local newspapers. I had wanted to spread away from only print journalism and become a broadcast journalist. I chose NYIT for several reasons; the beautiful campus, the location, and best of all, the LI News Tonight program which I will be part of next semester. I also wanted to attend NYIT because neighboring schools such as Hofstra or CW Post didn't allow freshmen to participate in their program courses right away. The ambitious person I am, I couldn't fathom not taking a course freshman year for the program I want to study.
I am in the five-year Communication Arts program. Some of my favorite courses so far have been Communications and Journalism. The professors have taught me not only the history of broadcasting, communications, journalism, etc., but they taught the product of objectivity and what would be expected by employers in the field.
Anticipating all goes well with the economy, when I graduate in 2012, I am hoping for a reporting, writing, producing, or directing position at one of the major news networks. Growing up, I had always wanted to be on the Today Show or have some sort of writing, or producing position there. When I studied at the NYIT Manhattan campus freshman year, I would attend the
Today Show as a spectator and basically watch them put it together. If I was to be a television reporter, I would not choose NBC because of their continuous changes.
Some of my favorite news people include: Brian Williams, Anderson Cooper, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters.
Favorite comedians: Joy Behar and Ellen DeGeneres.
