Studying in NYIT has been an exciting and great experience for me. Hard work, creativity, enthusiasm, and global perspective are some of the highlights of my NYIT life.
As a computer science major student, apart from the fascinating world of 0 and 1, I am also extremely interested in the domain of business. And thanks to Dean Nolt who not only gave me valuable suggestions but also helped me register for several courses in economics and finance, I am able to start my odyssey. Of course, it was not easy. But, I believe hard work is the key to unlock our potential, and through all the extra effort I gave, I became the top student in both computer science classes and business classes.
Professors in NYIT have their own ways of teaching and are full of passion. My data structure professor, Dr. Van Wieren is a typical example. In his class, we could never hear the full story. Instead, he left us with hints (tricks, in his word) and encourages us to figure out the whole picture. I work in group with other students and under his influence, we spent days and nights reading books and writing codes like crazy so as to find out the solutions quickly. I found myself learning much faster and better in this way, and I took part in the ACM ICPC Asia Regional Final in October 2009.
NYIT's Nanjing campus is a melting pot of the Chinese and American culture. I celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with American faculty members. And once I had also brought two American teaching assistants to my hometown Suzhou for a two-day visit to help them better understand the abundant Chinese culture. Learning in such a multicultural environment gives me a broad and open mind as well as enhanced my interpersonal communication skills.
I still have two more years before my graduation, and I am sure my great NYIT experience will continue…
