I am currently a freshman at NYIT and majoring in Information Technology. I work as an office assistant in the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).
My college experience has been a big change for me. As I anticipated my college life, I believed that college was going to be too difficult for me. My high school teachers told me that college was one of the hardest things that they had ever done but when they got through it they said it was well worth the effort. When school started I felt that it wasn’t hard but it was exhausting work. I was able to understand the work but it was a heavy load and I would spend most of my free time doing homework and reading. During the middle of the semester I started to get adjusted and balance final assignments and final tests.
I was very scared upon coming to NYIT because I don’t like to face new environments alone. A few of my high school friends came to NYIT and I think that is why the transition has been a little easier. My high school teacher told me that your college friends are going to be your lifelong friends and I do believe him. The friendships that I made, I believe will last a long time.
