Jennifer Kelly Director of Alumni Relations Office: Alumni Relations Campus: Old Westbury
Member of NYIT Since: 1999-2006, 2012
Since the moment Jennifer Kelly (M.S. '99) set foot on the Old Westbury campus, NYIT's new alumni relations director knew she had made a lifelong connection.
"While I was a student at NYIT, I had such a great experience interacting with professors and other people on campus," Kelly says. "I loved the campus culture and thought it would be a great place to work."
Kelly arrived at NYIT after more than a decade in the workforce and worked full-time while pursuing a master's degree in human resources management and labor relations. She found a mentor in labor relations professor Richard Dibble, then chairperson of the Center for Labor and Industrial Relations. He suggested she apply for the center's scholarship.
"His support was a lifesaver," Kelly says. "I didn't think I would get the scholarship, but he encouraged me."
She was awarded the scholarship, which helped to pay for classes during four straight semesters. After graduating, she served as associate director of the NYIT Career Network Center (now the Office of Career Services) until 2006.
Kelly has more than 20 years of experience in delivering career services for higher education institutions and human services organizations. Among her specialties are relationship building, training and development, strategic planning, and community outreach. She rejoins NYIT from Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y., where she served as career counselor and professor in the Department of Student Personnel Services.
"My NYIT education was a life-changing experience," Kelly says. "I'm looking forward to giving back and creating lifelong professional development opportunities for our alumni."
