Campus: Manhattan Major: Computer science with a concentration in information management
Harsh Pandit is the vice president of finance for the Student Government Association (SGA) at NYIT-Manhattan for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Why study at NYIT?
The university's computer science program, opportunities for hands-on experiences, and the locationNYC!
Why get involved in the SGA?
When I first started at NYIT, I was overwhelmed with everything it had to offer. What really got my interest was the 2013 National Student Leadership Conference in Boston. I attended the conference and it changed everything. I listened to one great speaker after another, and they really just hit me. The experience motivated me to get more involved.
What do you hope to achieve as VP of finance?
I want to see more events on and off campus and engage students to build their inner character. It's my hope that students will experience NYIT as I have and create a bigger, closer community.
Are you a member of any other NYIT clubs?
Yes, S.W.A.T. (Students Working to Advance Technology) and the South Asian Student Association.
What have been your best experiences at NYIT?
My first day of classes. At the end of the week, I was so happy and felt honored to be part of such an amazing institution. The professionalism of NYIT staff and professors and the friendly atmosphere on campus made me realize this is where I'm supposed to be!
What's your dream career?
A position in engineering management.
What is something that others would be surprised to learn about you?
I'm a shy person when it comes to dancing and singing in public. I can also fly a small airplane and am in the process of acquiring a private pilot's license.
Who are your role models?
At NYIT-Manhattan, they're Megan Siemers, director of student activities, and Jeremy Ducos, assistant director of student activities and leadership development. I look up to them for their work ethic.
Outside of NYIT, my role models are my parents. Just watching them from day to day, seeing what they do and how much, is inspiring. It makes me want to do even more.
What else inspires you?
The simpler things in life. For example, a flower in bloom or the smell of rain.
Which public figure do you admire?
Steve Jobs for everything he did and stood for.
Do you have any hobbies?
Engineering, technology, astronomy, sports, cars, and food.
