I am a junior currently majoring in Information Technology. I came to NYIT in 2009, majoring in Architecture. After two years of design fundamental classes, overnights, and studio work, I decided it wasn't the profession I envisioned myself in, even if architecture still is a part of me. The idea of IT came from when I first entered the United States in 2002 from the Dominican Republic when my interest wasn’t specifically IT but technology as a whole. I have a passion for improvement in how technology affects our lives to positive outcomes. Technology will always be there for us. Computers, cell phones, software, and hardware have made my life possible, literally. At NYIT, I have also been part of the Academic Computing Services since 2009, along with a team of fellow students and school staff, to ensure that any computer related tasks get done, from delivering equipment to classrooms to connecting NYIT Long Distance learning classrooms. From working, I have learned the values of customer service and team work.
I am also a part of Chi Alpha Epsilon, a national honor society devoted to academic excellence in oneself, as well as encouraging excellence in others. HEOP is just another name for family because without HEOP I probably would not be in this school. Being part of something bigger than me is what I value the most. That is why I major in IT–because I can contribute to technology and through that, the world around me.
