Christine Krut
Director of Admissions for Recruitment
Office: Admissions
Campus: Old Westbury
Member of NYIT Since: 2001
The woman behind NYIT's official Facebook page used to be fundamentally against integrating social media into student recruitment efforts. But now that social media is an integral part of students' lives, Christine has become the driving force behind NYIT’s Facebook initiative ... from engaging with students on a daily basis and monitoring communications on the page to establishing a social media presence at NYIT’s commencement ceremony this past year.
Christine joined NYIT when she was 20 years old as a temp in the Office of Admissions. Because she loved working with students, she decided to get her master’s degree in school counseling at NYIT and then became a full-time member of the admissions team, where she has dedicated her career to helping others. Christine is responsible for managing the recruitment of incoming freshman and transfer classes, and communicates regularly with students and parents, helps coordinate events on campus, and visits high schools and colleges to meet with prospective students. NYIT's Weekly Update asks Christine about her role at NYIT:
How has social media had an impact on NYIT?
Our Facebook page is a forum for all our students throughout our global campuses to connect with one another and have their issues addressed. We now have more than 2,000 fans on the page, where prospective students, current students, and alumni all interact with one another. During the commencement ceremony, NYIT graduates, friends, and families contributed by offering congratulations to graduates and sharing highlights of the year on Facebook and Twitter. We had more than 1,000 page views that day.
What has been the most challenging but rewarding project you have worked on thus far at NYIT?
While I can't pinpoint one thing, helping each student overcome their personal and academic challenges is very rewarding to me. I enjoy helping students consider all their options and work through their limitations to find a path that will work for them.
What’s on your NYIT “to do” list?
I am always trying to increase personal outreach to students and families. I am also working on growing the Student Ambassador Program and gaining more involvement in social media throughout our campuses. Above all, I am committed to enrolling a great class for 2014.
