The position of head coach. The program has a tradition of success, and I can only hope to follow in Hirsch's (former head coach Bob Hirschfield) footsteps.
Music vs. Baseball
When I was eight years old, my Dad put a guitar and a baseball glove on the table in front of me and told me to pick one. Obviously, I chose the glove. But I still love music!
Attending John Franco's Hall of Fame induction ceremony with the New York Mets in June.
My three sonsStephen (26), Ryan (24), and R.J. (22)have played ball since they were kids. They've all been to Hirsch's camps.
Best Baseball Experience
One day in 2006, I got a call from the New York Mets about signing Stephen. All the hard work that he and I had put in finally paid off. He played two years in the Mets minor league system and another two years of independent ball in Kalamazoo, Mich.
I carry a 24-carat-gold toothpick in my wallet-for the man who has everything. It was a gift from my in-laws.
