Anderson Miller is an engineering student studying at NYIT's Nanjing campus in China during the spring 2013 semester.
Why study at NYIT-Nanjing?
It provides the opportunity to gain a firsthand experience of a different yet amazing culture. The attraction and adventures that China has to offer are as vast as its population. The four-month stay is just enough to provide adequate insight into Chinese culture and not overwhelm.
Which classes are you taking in China?
-Communication for technical professions
-Philosophy of human nature
-Technology and global issues
-Anthropological health seminar, an online class from New York
What is a cultural difference you've adapted to?
How to use chopsticks. There are hardly any forks available at restaurants and none at the school's cafeterias.
Do you have a favorite Chinese site?
The NYIT-NUPT campus. As a student coming from Manhattan, I am surprised and impressed to see such a huge campus. It has two gyms, basketball and tennis courts, a track field, a student center, libraries, computer labs, and small stores.
Are you an NYIT scholarship recipient?
I receive the T.K. Steele Memorial Scholarship. This award has afforded me the opportunity to be financially able to study at NYIT. It also serves as a motivator, pushing me to maintain an above average GPA.
What are your career goals?
Get a job at a highly ranked IT and telecommunications company, such as Cisco or Alcatel-Lucent. I'd also like to pursue a master's degree, hopefully at NYIT.
Do you have any favorite tech devices?
Anything by Apple.
Who are your role models in life?
Professors at NYIT who I've had the pleasure of learning from. I admire that they've stuck with their fields of study from B.Sc. to Ph.D. They inspire me to do the same.
What motivates you?
People who share my determination to learn.
Do you have any hobbies?
Going to the movies, building networks using my simulation software, reading, hiking, camping, and fishing.
