Why teach at NYIT?
I believe that NYIT recognizes that teaching, research, and knowledge exchange are integral to the role of a university. Of equal importance is that NYIT students receive an education that empowers them to contribute to their workplaces and global communities.
Are you the recipient of any grants?
NYIT global faculty summer research grants in 2010 and 2011.
How has the latest technology influenced your teaching style?
I believe the potential of technology is to create communities of learners and open the classroom to more communication; to share authority as more resources are brought into the classroom; and to create opportunities for complex, authentic tasks connected to multidisciplinary long-term projects. For example, I post discussion questions on Blackboard for students to engage in outside of class, and integrate the Blackboard time into course grading and a class participation rubric. I also encourage my students to use interactive websites such as qualtrics.com to facilitate their research.
