President Guiliano and NYIT Host Chinese Ministry of Education

NYIT hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Education (MoE) of China, led by Senior Counselor Madame Wang Liying, at the Manhattan campus on Aug. 31. Five additional MoE representatives from the central Chinese ministry in Beijing and four members of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York joined NYIT President Guiliano, administration, and faculty to discuss the administration of higher education institutions, the selection of university presidents, and related topics. President Guiliano Welcomes New Students - Address

President Guiliano addressed the Class of 2016 on Sept. 4 at the university's campuses in Manhattan and Old Westbury, N.Y. He told new students that an NYIT ID card is “your ticket to the global interconnectivity that is this university.”

Presidential Technology Awardees

President Guiliano presented awards to five faculty and staff members at NYIT's 2012 convocation. The Presidential Technology Award recipients are pictured left to right between President Guiliano (far left) and Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rahmat Shoureshi (far right), including: Yong Ra, senior engineer, Technology Based Learning Systems; Jason Van Nest, assistant professor of architecture; Veronica Southard, D.H.Sc., associate professor of physical therapy; and Karen Friel, D.H.Sc., associate professor and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. President Guiliano Provides a Look at the Year Ahead

President Guiliano delivered his 13th address at NYIT's annual convocation on Aug. 30. He announced a new Presidential Endowed Professorship funded with a $1 million gift and discussed NYIT's role as "an idea incubator … where academia, commerce, innovation, and culture mingle, and cross-fertilize to engage meaningfully in research, development, and other activities that contribute to the understanding and betterment of the world." As part of the annual convocation, he presented five faculty members with Presidential Technology Awards recognizing their creative and effective use of technology to enhance teaching, research, and service at NYIT.

As they say in Hollywood, I would like to thank the academy for this honor and award. Except the Academy I want to thank is the one that Plato and his disciples founded in the groves of academe outside of Athens in the 4th century B.C. on sacred land that was once an olive grove—the Academy where Aristotle studied and its successor, which we serve and honor thousands of years later and where 14,000 NYIT students attend.

Celebrating the life of the mind, sharing and creating knowledge, helping to create human capital is a privilege and honor unto itself. And one I am proud to accept and proud to share with my like-minded colleagues at NYIT and in the Academy. ...continues
