A group of 18 NYIT students, staff members, and friends gathered recently for a one-of-a-kind trip to Bowen Island, a popular vacation spot and part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Led by NYIT Student Assistants Kiran More, Sunitha Vijakumar, Hemant Devarankonda, and Siten Patel, the group enjoyed a fun day exploring areas far beyond NYIT’s urban Vancouver campus.
The trip began at Horseshoe Bay, where everyone enjoyed lunch at Bay Moorings Restaurant, with ice cream later at Baskin-Robbins. Immediately after, the student group went on 30-minute ferry ride to Bowen Island. During the ferry ride, they had the opportunity to take pictures of the beautiful surroundings, and of each other. After a long hike and sightseeing by local BC Transit bus, students visited one of the best and most famous places for entertainment on the island, Bowen Island Neighborhood Pub. There, all the students enjoyed food, billiards, dancing, singing, and celebrating the birthday of one of the NYIT students.
Siten Patel celebrated his 25th birthday on the day of the excursion. “It was a very fun birthday for me. I never thought I would ever be celebrating my birthday on an island. Overall, it was a wonderful experience in a beautiful environment with some good friends,” said Patel.
Students were happy and thankful to NYIT organizers for making the day so memorable. “It was a very nice experience for me. I recommend that the school continue to organize trips like this in the future, so that we can come away with great memories from NYIT-Vancouver,” said M.B.A. student Digpal Parmar. Kiran More added, “This trip allowed us to share experiences, mingle with one another, and exchange thoughts.”
