NYIT Appoints New Executive Director and Campus Dean in Vancouver

NYIT-Vancouver Campus Dean Devon Cancilla

Vancouver, Canada (Mar. 29, 2011) – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has named Devon A. Cancilla, Ph.D., as the new Executive Director and Campus Dean at its Vancouver, Canada, campus.

Cancilla brings more than 15 years of experience in higher education instruction, research, and administration to the university. He plans to work on strengthening the academic offerings at NYIT-Vancouver while taking advantage of many collaborative projects with NYIT’s global campuses.

“Being a part of a global campus provides remarkable opportunities to enhance the educational experience available to students and faculty,” he said.

Cancilla joins NYIT from Western Washington University, where he was director of scientific technical services. While there, he developed and supported internal and external programs that enhanced the delivery of scientific research and education through collaborative activities. He also developed Western’s Integrated Laboratory Network (ILN), an award winning remote access system to university instrumentation for teaching and research activities.

With nearly 30 publications to his credit in journals such as Environmental Science and Technology, The American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, and The Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks, Cancilla has also developed numerous workshops and projects on scientific education and remote learning technologies.

He received his bachelor’s degree in General Science and his master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Iowa, and completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California at Los Angeles.
