NYIT-Bahrain Visits Down's Syndrome Care Center

Manama, Bahrain (Sep. 27, 2011)—As the Arab world’s awareness of the needs of those diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome grows, NYIT-Bahrain students and alumni visited the Bahrain Down’s Syndrome Society and Care Center today.

While the incidence of Down’s Syndrome is estimated at one in 733 births, many countries have been slow to ensure that individuals who suffer from the genetic disease are not denied the same opportunities that are available to the general population. The center provided the visitors with a tour of its facilities and a chance to meet the children who are treated there.

The tour inspired the group from NYIT to get more involved with the work of the society. “We are planning to raise money to help the center purchase equipment that will help them improve their services,” said Amal al-Dallal, associate director of alumni and employer relations at NYIT-Bahrain.
