New York Institute of Technology (NYIT- Abu Dhabi) hosted the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank's Bloodmobile for a campus blood donation day on 5 March 2014. Authorities from the blood bank, associated with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), supported the event by sending nursing staff to NYIT's Muroor Road campus to collect blood from NYIT's students and staff.
"You never know when you or someone you love might need blood," said Gantasala Prabhakar, a professor in NYIT's School of Management and an organizer of the NYIT blood drive. "We all should do our part by donating when we can."
The Bloodmobile was busy throughout the event, with students scheduled in batches of 4-5 in order to increase efficiency. A total of 80 donors, including students, faculty, and staff, gave blood.
By donating blood regularly, participants learn the importance of fulfilling their duty to the community and the country at large. Abu Dhabi Campus Dean Garon Wheeler stated, "NYIT has always played a leading role in creating a sense of social responsibility among its stakeholders, and we want to continue to serve the region’s best interests."
NYIT students and staff, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, hold blood donation campaigns each semester, and the doctors and paramedics of SKMC have always appreciated their efforts.
