The 12th annual Senior Health Expo sponsored by Senator Kemp Hannon was held at the St Paul's Field House in Garden City, New York from 9 am until 1:30 to 2 pm on Thursday October 3rd 2013. Originally this event was to conclude at 1 pm. There were many more interested senior citizens than was anticipated and thus the event was extended. The main event was the free Flu and Pneumococcal Vaccines. Six New York Institute Nursing Students from Old Westbury participated with the average of administering at least 20 senior citizens with the Flu Vaccines each as well as 2-3 Pneumococcal Vaccines each, a total of at least 120 Flu Vaccines and 15 Pneumococcal Vaccines administered from the 6 NYIT Students that attended this event.

These NYIT Nursing Student were very involved with the education aspect of this vaccination process, with many participates asking questions. This Senior Health Expo also included various health care educational and services for the senior citizens. For example there were B/P, visual, audiology, cholesterol, glucose, and spinal/chiropractic assessment screenings. In addition, there were many tables with representatives with information for senior citizens to facilitate their health care. For example, services varied from mammogram access information to how to research your providers back ground from an agency called PULSE (Persons Limiting Sub standards and errors in Health Care).
