Round One Complete!

Workforce Advancement through Geriatric Education

The NYIT Department of Nursing has completed round one of its W.A.G.E: Workforce Advancement through Geriatric Education Core Course on March 9th and 16th and Advanced Course on April 6th and 13th. This program was fully funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) at no cost to participants.

The program was designed to educate and prepare geriatric care providers with the skills necessary to address the physical, psychological and cultural issues existing in geriatric care settings and was run by HRSA Grant co-directors Susan Neville, Ph.D., R.N., Maureen Cardoza, Ph.D., R.N. and HRSA Grant Project Coordinator Professor Laura Friedland-Stulbaum, M.S., Ph.D(c).

Tobi Abrahmson, Ph.D., Director of the NYIT Center for Gerontology and Geriatrics and faculty expert on aging, Saundra Sirmans, MSN/Ed, RN, Jennifer Lincks, MA, RN, BC-ANP, CNAT and Phyllis S. Quinlan, RN-BC, Ph.D. were among the guest speakers. A total of 35 geriatric healthcare providers attended the Core Course and 31 Registered Nurses attended the advanced course.
