New NCLEX Identification Policy

NCSBN

New NCLEX Identification Policy

On June 16, 2014, NCSBN will implement a new ID policy for candidate admission to Pearson VUE test centers.

The only acceptable forms of identification for domestic test centers are:

  • Passport books and cards
  • Driver's license
  • Provincial/Territorial or state identification card
  • Permanent residence card
  • Military identification card

The only acceptable forms of identification for international test centers are:

  • Passport books and cards

All forms of identification listed above must be valid (nonexpired), government-issued identification containing the following information:

  • Name (in Roman characters)
  • Photograph
  • Signature

Temporary identification (examples include limited term IDs and any ID reading "temp" or "temporary") is only acceptable if it meets the required elements stated above.

In researching government issued IDs in the U.S. and determining methods for improving the admissions process for candidates at the test centers, NCSBN saw an opportunity to expand on the types of identification acceptable for admission to the NCLEX. By implementing this new policy, there will be less confusion about identification at the test centers, while the same high level security standards will be maintained. More information about this change in identification policy is available online.
