Student Nurses Association (SNA) officers, Ronni Kivovitz, Katrina Hendrickson, Stephanie Wilches-Escobar and Dr. Suzy Diggle-Fox of the NYIT Nursing Program had the opportunity to travel to Nashville, TN as school representatives and participants in the 62nd Annual National Student Nurses Association conference entitled “Strong Voices and Big Dreams: Influencing the Future”. The five day conference (April 9-11) hosts student nurses, professors, advisors, vendors, and guest speakers from both associate and baccalaureate nursing programs from all 50 states. The conference offered a diverse itinerary with events for both students and faculty including information sessions on career development, key note speakers addressing contemporary nursing issues, focus groups on interdisciplinary rounding, leadership opportunities, and nursing informatics, Red Cross disaster certification, blood drive/bone marrow drive, student poster presentations, and an expo hall filled with national healthcare vendors and much more. The senior nursing students from NYIT presented their poster Safe Patient Handling Policy for Health Care Facility in the conference poster section titled Embracing Political Advocacy as a Student Nurse.
