Film Screening and Director Q&A View the foreign film, Kvinnorna's O (Women's Island), on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. at NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, Manhattan campus. Following the film will be a Q&A session with its award-winning director, Leyla Assaf-Tengroth. Event is free for NYIT faculty and staff members. R.S.V.P. for the event.

Dumbo Arts Festival "Flying," an immersive art installation with a 3-D animated game conceived by Yuko Oda, associate professor of fine arts, will be featured in the AT&T Festival Lounge, 1 Main Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. Student volunteers will assist with the installation, including Wendy Gil, Daniela Silva, Victoria Lasisi, and Nina Mirhabibi. Exhibition dates/times include:

  • Friday, Sept. 27, 6-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 28, noon-9 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 29, noon-6 p.m.

Alternative Spring Break 2014 in Ecuador Ten NYIT students and two NYIT faculty/staff members will be selected to spend spring break volunteering in Portoviejo and Puerto Lopez helping to build and expand organic orchard gardens. Blackboard Support Sessions Staff members from the Department of Technology-Based Learning Systems are available to assist with Blackboard questions during sessions through Monday, Sept. 30 in Old Westbury and Manhattan. View a schedule.

Yoga and Pilates Classes The NYIT Athletics Department hosts free yoga and pilates classes during the fall 2013 semester for NYIT faculty, staff, and students on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:45-1:45 p.m. in Recreation Hall, Old Westbury campus. Participants must bring their own mat (at least a half-inch thick), towel, and water bottle, and dress in workout gear, not street clothing.

Benjamin J. Cecil 5K Walk for Independence Join the NYIT Vocational Independence Program for its annual walk to support a scholarship in memory of former student Benjamin J. Cecil on Saturday, Oct. 5, 9 a.m. at 300 Carleton Ave., Independence Hall, Central Islip, N.Y. Cost is $25. The 5K path is handicap accessible, and refreshments will be served during the walk. Doo Wop Fundraiser Attend a Doo Wop concert for a cause on Sunday, Oct. 6, 3-5:30 p.m. in Riland Auditorium, Old Westbury campus. Cost is $25 per person. Pay at the door or send a check payable to NYIT to: Susan Christie, Riland Academic Health Care Center, room 34, Old Westbury campus. Proceeds benefit NYIT's Adele Smithers Parkinson's Disease Treatment Center. 

Out in the Workplace Attend a panel discussion on building inclusive environments for LGBT employees and students on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 5:30-8 p.m. at KPMG’s Heritage Center, 345 Park Ave., New York City. Panelists will include members of the NYIT community. Read more.

Provost/Faculty Conference Attend this semester's Provost/Faculty Conferences from 12:45 to 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in Old Westbury (Rockefeller Auditorium) or Thursday, Oct. 10 in Manhattan (16 W. 61st St., 11th Floor Auditorium). Register for the conference.

Cut 'n' Paste: From Architectural Assemblage to Collage City Architectural renderings created for NYIT's design of a recycling center in Costa Rica will be included in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art through Sunday, Dec. 1 at 11 W. 53 St., New York City. Read more.
