Cyber Security Conference NYIT's annual Cyber Security Conference will feature expert speakers on Thursday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, Manhattan campus. Register for the conference.
Educational Technology Ambassadors Meeting The group's first meeting of the fall 2013 semester will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 12:45-2:10 p.m. in Old Westbury (Harry Schure Hall, DL 2) and Manhattan (Edward Guiliano Global Center, 1855 Broadway, room 706). - An introduction to Zoom HD videoconferencing. Learn how this easy-to-use tool can be useful for classes. Bring your tablet or mobile device; accounts will be provided.
- Discussion of a possible switch from an email list to a Google+ community as a way to stay in contact and exchange ideas during the semester.
- Follow up on last year's conversation about creating an educational technology showcase at the end of the 2013-2014 academic year.
Dumbo Arts Festival "Flying," an immersive art installation with a 3-D animated game conceived by Yuko Oda, associate professor of fine arts, will be featured in the AT&T Festival Lounge, 1 Main Street, Brooklyn, N.Y., on the following dates/times:
- Friday, Sept. 27, 6-9 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 28, noon-9 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 29, noon-6 p.m.
Alternative Spring Break 2014 in Ecuador Ten NYIT students and two NYIT faculty/staff members will be selected to spend spring break volunteering in Portoviejo and Puerto Lopez helping to build and expand organic orchard gardens. Yoga and Pilates Classes The NYIT Athletics Department hosts free yoga and pilates classes during the fall 2013 semester for NYIT faculty, staff, and students on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:45-1:45 p.m. in Recreation Hall, Old Westbury campus. Participants must bring their own mat (at least a half-inch thick), towel, and water bottle, and dress in workout gear, not street clothing.
Benjamin J. Cecil 5K Walk for Independence Join the NYIT Vocational Independence Program for its annual walk to support a scholarship in memory of former student Benjamin J. Cecil on Saturday, Oct. 5, 9 a.m. at 300 Carleton Ave., Independence Hall, Central Islip, N.Y. Cost is $25. The 5K path is handicap accessible, and refreshments will be served during the walk. Doo Wop Fundraiser Attend a Doo Wop concert for a cause on Sunday, Oct. 6, 3-5:30 p.m. in Riland Auditorium, Old Westbury campus. Cost is $25 per person.
