Girl Rising

Open Forums with NYIT's VPs NYIT faculty and staff members are invited to attend open forums with NYIT's VPs from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in Manhattan (16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium) and Tuesday, March 12 in Old Westbury (Harry Schure Hall, room 130). Call for RFPs: Classrooms Design Challenge Participate in a challenge to design a student-centered classroom that supports active, collaborative teaching and learning. The winning proposal will be implemented in fall 2013. Proposals are due by Tuesday, April 30. Read more.

An Evening with the Entrepreneurs The NYIT School of Management and the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies invites faculty, staff members and their guests to an open discussion by alumni entrepreneurs on Thursday, March 7, 6-9:30 p.m. at 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor, NYIT-Manhattan. The event, "An Evening with the Entrepreneurs: A Networking and Learning Opportunity," will include presentations, a Q&A session, and a buffet dinner. Read more.

Girl Rising View a film telling the stories of nine extraordinary girls from nine countries each narrated by an A-list actress on Thursday, March 7, noon-2:30 p.m. at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, 1871 Broadway (between 61st and 62nd Streets), Manhattan campus. Paper Chase Exhibit Visit NYIT's "Paper Chase" exhibit featuring artwork by Viviane Rombaldi Seppey and Pauline Galiana, Thursday, March 7 to Thursday, April 11 at NYIT Gallery 61, 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium, Manhattan campus. Dean's Speaker Series Attend the Dean's Speaker Series hosted by Patricia Chute, Ed.D., dean of the NYIT School of Health Professions, on Thursday, March 7, 12:30-1:50 p.m. in Rockefeller Auditorium, Old Westbury campus. Guest speaker Somdat Mahabir, Ph.D., M.P.H., will present on the topic of early-life exposures and cancer development later in life.

St. Baldrick's Cancer Fundraisers Join NYIT medical students and St. Baldrick's Foundation for two events to shave the way to conquer childhood cancer on Friday, March 8, 6 p.m. at 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium, Manhattan campus, and Sunday, March 17, noon at The Downtown Café, 4 School St., Glen Cove, N.Y. Nursing Events The Department of Nursing encourages interested faculty members to attend professional development events in March and April, including:

  • Geriatric Education Program: W.A.G.E. The program for Workforce Advancement through Geriatric Education) includes a 20-hour course on Saturday, March 9 and 16 and an advanced RN course on Saturday, April 6 and 13. Some online coursework is required. View full details.
  • 8th Annual NYIT Department of Nursing Spring Colloquium This year's colloquium will focus on post-traumatic stress disorder on Thursday, March 28, 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Riland Auditorium, Old Westbury campus. For more information, download a pdf.
  • Pediatric Disaster Management Core Curriculum This course designed to prepare health care workers for pediatric emergencies will take place on Tuesday, April 9 and 23 at NYIT's Old Westbury campus. For more information, download a pdf.

Free Yoga NYIT Athletics invites all faculty and staff members to attend free evening yoga classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Bears Den, Old Westbury campus. Classes begin this week. Participants need to supply their own mat and bring a towel and water bottle. For questions, call 516.686.7626.

Phi Eta Sigma Induction Ceremony Faculty members are invited to congratulate all students eligible for Phi Eta Sigma this year and attend their induction ceremony on Tuesday, March 12, 7 p.m. in Manhattan (16 W. 61st St., 11th floor auditorium) and Old Westbury (Riland auditorium). Safety Conference NYIT will host this year’s American Society of Safety Engineers Professional Development Conference on Wednesday, March 20, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Salten Hall, Old Westbury campus. The event will feature a keynote address by Anthony Ciuffo, CSP, area director of the Long Island office of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Cost is $80 per person. Provost Discovery Luncheon Faculty members are invited to attend a luncheon hosted by NYIT Provost Rahmat Shoureshi on Tuesday, March 26 in Old Westbury (Riland Auditorium, event will be streamed to NYIT Auditorium on Broadway) and Thursday, March 28 in Manhattan (NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, event will be streamed to Rockefeller Auditorium), 12:30-1:50 p.m. on both days.

3rd Annual Relay for Lunch Help support NYIT's Relay for Life and the Student Government Association to raise much-needed funds toward their $50K goal on Thursday, April 4, 12:30 p.m. in the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, Old Westbury campus. The buffet luncheon is donated by NYIT Dining Services. Cost is a $25 minimum donation. Payments will be accepted at the door; make checks payable to the American Cancer Society. Career Fair NYIT will host its 30th annual Job/Internship Fair on Thursday, April 4, noon-3 p.m. in the Sports Complex, Old Westbury campus.

TIAA-CREF Appointments A TIAA-CREF representative will be visiting NYIT's Old Westbury campus during the spring 2013 semester to provide personal investment and retirement counseling for program participants. Relay for Life All faculty and staff members are invited to participate in NYIT's 5th Annual Relay for Life on Friday, April 19. Join one of the teams already begun at NYIT's New York campuses or start your own. Read more.
