The Long Island Regional Economic Development Council (LIREDC) submitted a one-year progress report to New York state, providing detail on its achievements against a five-year strategic plan, including NYIT's progress in establishing an Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center. The report also includes a list of 16 Long Island priority projects endorsed by LIREDC for a second round of the funding. They total more than $30 million in state investment, including the expansion of the EngINE project (Engineering: Increase Enrollments), which would extend to NYIT, among other colleges, a key regional council initiative to reduce the shortage of engineers needed to create an innovation economy. New York state funding recommended for NYIT is $500,000; awards are expected to be announced this fall.
