Nada Anid, Ph.D. (nanid@nyit.edu), dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, has been invited by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County to serve on its board of directors' STEM advisory committee, to help inspire and engage young girls to enter careers in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D. (bbehesht@nyit.edu), associate dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, was interviewed by New York Press for the June 19 article, "Living in a PRISM State." Read more.

The paper, "Increasing Your Cultural Awareness," by Peter Harris (pharris@nyit.edu), professor of accounting, was listed on the Social Science Research Network's Top 10 Paper Downloads List for the Urban and Transnational Anthropology eJournal. As of June 10, his paper was downloaded 40 times.

Youjeong Kim, Ph.D. (ykim71@nyit.edu), assistant professor of communication arts at NYIT-Manhattan, and John Hanc (jhanc@nyit.edu), associate professor of communication arts at NYIT-Old Westbury, co-hosted 13 Korean journalists for a visit to the Melville, N.Y.-based headquarters of Newsday, the 15th largest newspaper in the United States. Radomir A. Mihajlovic, Ph.D. (rmihajlo@nyit.edu), adjunct professor of computer science, presented the paper, "Cloud Computing and Intrusion Detection," on June 19 at the 2013 Business Information Security Conference in Belgrade, Serbia. His paper co-authors include NYIT graduate student Mahmood Azmat, who is also employed as a security consultant for Trend Micro, and NYIT alumnus Alex Mihajlovic (B.S. '08), who is working as a research assistant for the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences.

Frank Mruk (fmruk@nyit.edu), associate dean for business and strategic planning, participated in various architectural events, including:

  • An exhibition on NYIT's Comprehensive Coastal Communities Competition at the New York Interagency Engineering Council's event, "After Superstorm Sandy: Rebuilding and Planning Metropolitan Infrastructure," June 6 in New York City.
  • A panel discussion on collaborations with academia at a NYCxDESIGN event sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York, and Town+Gown, May 21 in New York City.
  • A presentation on "The Architecture of Innovation: Frameworks for Strategically Structuring Innovation," at the 2013 Association for Strategic Planning National Conference, April 23 in Atlanta, Ga.
