Making of a Surgeon

Nada Marie Anid, Ph.D. (nanid@nyit.edu), dean of the NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, has co-authored the Huffington Post commentary, "Not Your Grandma's Infrastructure: Post-Sandy Wake-Up Call." Susana H. Case, Ph.D. (shcase@nyit.edu), professor and coordinator for behavioral sciences at NYIT-Manhattan, has published the poem, "Volcano Girl," in v. 19 of Spillway and the collection of poems, Salem in Séance.

Annie Christain, Ph.D. (lchrista@nyit.edu), assistant professor of English at NYIT-Nanjing, was chosen by the editor of Spoon River Poetry Review to have her poem, "Orbs Whose Collective Sum Signifies My Age," featured and archived online. Read the poem (PDF).

Claude E. Gagna, Ph.D. (cgagna@nyit.edu), associate professor of life sciences and director of NYIT's biology laboratories, was elected as a fellow by the board of trustees of the Society of Biology, a professional charitable organization in London. The Society of Biology advances the interests of biology in academia, industry, and research in Europe and the world.

John Hanc (jhanc@nyit.edu), associate professor of communication arts, has co-authored The Making of a Surgeon, the first in a series of short e-books, "Inside Harvard Medical School," published by Harvard Health Publications, the consumer publishing arm of Harvard Medical School, in collaboration with Rosetta Publishing. The second e-book in the series will be about life for the residents in the ER at The Brigham, a teaching hospital in Boston. This publishing model offers short, affordable e-books. Read more.

Michelle Posner-Stylianou (mstyli03@nyit.edu), teacher/counselor for NYIT's Vocational Independence Program, and her husband, Stelios, are featured together in the exhibition, "Collaborative Painting," featuring 20 new pieces of work at the Brickhouse Brewery in Patchogue, N.Y., and are artists-in-residence at the venue for the second straight year.
