On May 20, Alex Ott, Ed.D., (aott@nyit.edu) associate dean, Academic and Enrollment Support Services, co-presented a workshop entitled "Retention Initiatives: From Enrollment Management to Institutional Interventions" at the New York State Transfer and Articulation Association's 21st annual conference in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR), Washington D.C., has elected Niharika Nath, Ph.D., (nnath@nyit.edu) associate professor, life sciences, as a councilor in the health sciences division. In her three-year term beginning June 2014, she will assist CUR in hosting undergraduate poster sessions on Capitol Hill and producing its quarterly journal.

Kelly Imperial, (kimperia@nyit.edu) associate director of admissions and development for NYIT’s Vocational Independence Program,  had her article, “Explore postsecondary options for students with learning differences” published on ExpertBeacon.com. Read the article.

Sharon Koehler, D.O., (skoehl01@nyit.edu) is planning a Breast Health Symposium & Men’s Health Program on Sept. 21, 12:30 – 2 p.m. at the Grace international Cathedral, Uniondale, N.Y.  Funded by a grant from the Church of St. Patrick (Huntington, N.Y.) and the New York Breast Cancer Support Group, the event is free of charge and includes lunch.  Other participating faculty include: Assistant Professors Sonia Rivera Martinez, D.O., Kathleen Pergament, D.O., Brookshield Laurent, D.O., Carlos Magalhaes, D.O., and Assistant Dean Bhuma Krishnamachari, Ph.D.

NYITCOM Dean Wolfgang Gilliar, D.O., (wgilliar@nyit.edu) and Sheldon Yao, D.O., acting chair of the OMM department, along with graduating student physicians John Hassani, Martin Gagne, and Gebe George, published "Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia" in the 87th issue of Journal of Visual Experiments (JoVE). One of the first video journals focusing on the use of OMT for pneumonia, it allows readers to view demonstrations of osteopathic manipulative techniques. View the presentation.
