Accomplishments

Claude Gagna, Ph.D. (cgagna@nyit.edu), associate professor of life sciences, published two peer-reviewed articles in SkinMed Journal on his molecular biological research in human skin cancers. They include: "Anonymous Dermatopathologists: A Socioeconomic Solution to a Medical Problem" and "Dendritic Melanocytic Pseudomelanomas."

Robert J. Koenig, Ed.D. (rkoenig@nyit.edu), associate dean of the School of Management, delivered the keynote presentation at BCA Global's 20th Cultural Awareness Salute Dinner, Nov. 8 in New York City. His presentation was on "Addressing Environmental and Sustainability Concerns in the Hospitality Industry and Academic Institutions' Responsibility in Preparing Students for Career Success." Attendees included CEOs and presidents of leading businesses in the hospitality industry, executives from academic institutions, and celebrity chefs and representatives of the Food Network. Maureen Cardoza, Ph.D., R.N. (mcardoza@nyit.edu), assistant professor of nursing, and Susan Neville, Ph.D., R.N. (sneville@nyit.edu), professor and chair of the Department of Nursing, presented a webinar on Nov. 13 on the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Workforce Advancement for Geriatric Education (W.A.G.E.) program. The webinar included a summary of the program's objectives, curriculum, benefits to participants and clinical partners, and outcomes. Their audience included HRSA Comprehensive Geriatric Education Program grant recipients from universities and government agencies.

Deborah Y. Cohn, Ph.D. (dcohn02@nyit.edu), associate professor of marketing, presented the paper, "A Consumer Values Analysis of Attitudes Toward Green and Non-Green Vehicle Purchase," at the 40th Annual Meeting of the Northeast Business and Economics Association, Nov. 8 in Bretton Woods, N.H. Her research examines consumer motivations and values associated with buying environmentally friendly vehicles. She also discussed managerial recommendations for marketers of green products.

Farzana Gandhi (fgandhi@nyit.edu), assistant professor of architecture, served as an invited presenter and panelist for the interdisciplinary 2013 NYC UXPA World Usability Day Event on Nov. 14 in New York City. She gave the talk, "Designing for Wellness on the Street."

Jonathan Goldman, Ph.D. (jgoldm03@nyit.edu), assistant professor of English, delivered the presentation, "Oscar Wilde, Trademarking Taste," at the Oscar Wilde and the Law Conference on Nov. 7 at University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla.

Hui-Yin Hsu, Ph.D. (hhsu02@nyit.edu), associate professor of teacher education, and Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D. (shiang-kwei.wang@nyit.edu), associate professor of instructional technology, co-authored the article, "Human Impact on Water Quality: Conducting Inquiry Activities With Cyber Databases and ICTs," published in the November 2013 issue of Science Scope.

Vanaja Menon Vadakepat, Ph.D. (vvadak01@nyit.edu), associate professor of marketing, published the article, "Rural Retailing: Challenges to Traditional Handicrafts." in the November 2013 issue of the Journal of Global Marketing. Read more (login required).

Ernst VanBergeijk, Ph.D. (evanberg@nyit.edu), associate dean and executive director of the NYIT Vocational Independence Program, conducted two workshop presentations on "Work Opportunities for Students on the Autism Spectrum" at the biannual Future Quest Conference, Nov. 16 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
