New Education Dean Joins NYIT

Satasha Green, Ph.D., is NYIT's new dean of the School of Education. She succeeds Michael Uttendorfer, Ed.D. (M.S. '95), who will serve as an assistant provost for the next academic year and teach two education courses.

Green joins NYIT from the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she served as associate dean. She is committed to quality teaching, community service, and expanding diversity in the workforce. As the former director and co-founder of the International Special Education Coalition, she researched cross-cultural characteristics of autism in Kenya. Among her goals at NYIT are to highlight faculty research and its connection to the community, and enhance the resources provided by the School of Education.

Students Experience Sea, Air, and Space Careers at NYIT Camp A tour of the historic Enterprise space shuttle at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on July 19 in New York City was a highlight of NYIT's summer 2012 Career Discovery Camp for high school students. They attended the unveiling of a new exhibit about the 122-foot space shuttle orbiter, the first designed by NASA for atmospheric test flights in the 1970s. The Career Discovery Camp is organized by the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences to promote the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering, and math as future professions. ...more

Thomas Scandalis, D.O., Honored at White Coat Ceremony NYIT's white coat ceremony on July 18 marked a new educational phase for 284 students entering their third year at the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM), as they transition from the classroom to clinical rotations in hospitals. Alumni helped the physicians-in-training into their white coats during a ceremony that honored one of their own—Thomas Scandalis (D.O. '87, pictured with a student), former dean of NYCOM. He will serve as chair of NYIT's new Department of Sports Medicine and director of the new Center for Sports Medicine and Performance Sciences. ...more
