Meet Beverly J. Butcher, Ph.D.

In 2009, when Associate Professor Beverly J. Butcher, Ph.D., was employed at a university in northern Florida, she taught courses on multicultural literature and writing as well as the work of female authors in China. It was the latter courses on the writings of Nobel Prize winner Pearl Buck's The Exile and Fighting Angel and Anchee Min's Red Azalea and Empress Orchid that Butcher says invoked her longing to return to China, where she had lived four years previously, in Taiwan and Shanghai. Now, she directs the NYIT Center for Humanities and Culture at NUPT and chairs the English department at NYIT's Nanjing campus.

Join colleagues from NYIT campuses around the globe to discuss ways that instructor feedback to students can improve student learning. President Guiliano Welcomes New Students in Nanjing, China NYIT President Edward Guiliano and NUPT President Yang Zhen welcomed 324 freshmen to the NYIT-Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications dual degree program on Oct. 11 in Nanjing, China. NYIT Announces Partnership with IBM and New Contest NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences has joined forces with IBM in a new partnership to offer faculty members and students a number of joint activities, including a new program in enterprise engineering. To kick off the partnership, encourage your students to participate in IBM's Eighth Annual Master the Mainframe Contest through Friday, Dec. 28. NYIT Architects Announce Kickstarter Campaign for Roofing Project

NYIT Architects Announce Kickstarter Campaign for Roofing Project NYIT architecture professors and students have launched a kickstarter campaign to raise money for constructing a model of their patented water bottle roofing system, with the goal of raising $32,500 by Thursday, Nov. 15. Architecture faculty members leading the project are associate professor Michele Bertomen and assistant professors Jason Van Nest and Farzana Gandhi. Their efforts began in 2011, when the team designed a Soda Bottle Interface Bracket (short for SodaBIB), a key element of the roofing system, and NYIT later received a provisional patent for it. The team soon realized SodaBIB's potential for business partnerships and providing emergency shelter for people in developing countries. ...more

Meet Michael Hadjiargyrou, Ph.D.

NYIT's new chairperson of the Department of Life Sciences Michael Hadjiargyrou, Ph.D., has more than 25 years of experience as a biology instructor and laboratory investigator. His research has focused on innovative approaches for engineering new musculoskeletal tissue using knowledge derived from basic molecular/cellular biology and biomaterials. For example, he has examined the expression of genes involved in bone regeneration as a way to better understand the healing of fractures and osteoporosis. He holds four patents and has collaborated on projects with members of private industry and scientists around the world.
