New Dean Installed for NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Congratulations to Wolfgang Gilliar, D.O., who officially assumed his new role as the fifth dean of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. He joined the university in 2004 and has since served as chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and was voted the 2012 Educator of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation. Happy Holidays to All!

NYIT wishes all faculty members, staff, and administrators happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year. The New York campuses will be closed from Monday, Dec. 24 until Tuesday, Jan. 1. Offices will reopen and intersession in New York begins on Wednesday, Jan. 2 and ends on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Don't forget to set your out-of-office message for voicemail and email.

Express Condolences for Sandy Hook Tragedy

There are upcoming opportunities at the New York campuses for members of the NYIT community to share their condolences with residents of Newtown, Conn., in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They include:

  • MOMENT OF SILENCE: Friday, Dec. 21, 9:30 a.m.
    A moment of silence will be held throughout NYIT’s New York campuses at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning in memory of those lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and their loved ones.

  • Old Westbury Campus: Stop by the Harry Schure Hall lobby, 9 a.m. - noon on Wednesday, Dec. 19 to sign a condolence book that will be given to the Newtown, Conn., community by the NYIT Office of Campus Life.
  • Manhattan Campus: Sign a Sandy Hook Elementary School Condolence Banner through Friday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Edward Guiliano Global Center, lobby. The banner will be sent to Newtown residents.

NYIT Establishes Admissions Advisory Board The Office of Admissions has created an Admissions Advisory Board to encourage collaboration among NYIT admissions counselors and high school guidance counselors. The board's purpose is to share ideas on current educational trends, better address students' needs during the college admissions process, and to help students transition to college. The first meeting on Dec. 10 in Old Westbury, N.Y., discussed the academic needs of students, effectiveness of various admissions events, top questions and concerns from students, and much more. The founding members of the NYIT Admissions Advisory Board represent high schools in Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. ...more
