Cast Iron Chef Features Daniel Boulud as Guest Judge

NYIT's Cast Iron Chef Competition caused a stir on April 30, when famed master chef Daniel Boulud came to the Old Westbury campus to judge the event. Nearly 200 people attended the cooking competition at NYIT de Seversky Mansion featuring teams of local police officers from Old Brookville and Old Westbury, N.Y., and an NYIT team with Ana Garcia, catering sales coordinator; Alan Fairbairn, associate professor of hospitality management; Dan Quigley, associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences (pictured left to right); and Michael Scarpa-Burnett, associate dean for campus life at NYIT-Old Westbury. Two students from NYIT's hospitality management program, Ryan Malone and Oksana Melnyk, enjoyed once-in-a-lifetime experiences as guest judges alongside Boulud. Newsday captured the action on film.

High School Students Showcase Engineering and Technology Projects at NYIT NYIT hosted a competition on April 29 for high school students to exhibit their science and engineering projects at the Old Westbury campus. Students came from all over Long Island, N.Y., including Brentwood, Commack, Manhasset, and Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High Schools. This is the third year that NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences has organized the competition in partnership with ConnectToTech, a volunteer organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting students to connect to technology educational and career opportunities. ...more
