SoECS meets with Brazilian representative

The School of Engineering and Computing Sciences welcomed a representative from a Brazilian research and innovation center to NYIT’s Old Westbury campus to discuss potential partnerships and in computer science and environmental programs.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rahmat A. Shoureshi, Dean Nada Anid, and several faculty members and alumni met with Dr. Carlos Mauricio Serodio Figueiredo, a researcher and professor at FUCAPI (Center for Analysis, Research and Innovation) in Manaus, Brazil.  The center is a nonprofit group dedicated to sustainable development through education and technology.

Figueiredo said his organization is particularly interested in long-term strategies for entrepreneurship and innovation.  NYIT officials discussed the university’s desire for additional global and research collaborations, including a joint degree program in Brazil and programs that would lead to new start-ups. After hearing about NYIT’s programs and areas of expertise, he said he would return to Brazil and share information with his colleagues about areas of potential future collaborations with NYIT.
