The NYIT REU Program will provide opportunities for 10 motivated and talented undergraduate students to collaborate with NYIT faculty and graduate students in research on methods of securing smartphones and their networks using both hardware and software approaches (women and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply). Topics of research for the program includes simulating the spread of malware on smartphones, implementing cryptographic algorithms and authentication schemes for smartphones, studying topology control of wireless networks, geolocating smartphones, detecting physical attack on a network of smartphones, and developing privacy-protected medical sensing methods using smartphones.
Accepted students will receive a $5,000 stipend for the summer, plus $2,800 for housing and food, and a travel allowance up to $600, in addition to valuable research experience, grad school preparation, networking opportunities with industry professionals, access to exciting conferences in the field of cybersecurity, and tours of state-of-the-art research facilities, labs, and security centers in New York City.
