NYIT Unveils Center for Humanities and Culture in Nanjing, China

Nanjing, China (April 21, 2012) — Collaborations, connectivity, and innovation promise to stir among denizens of the newly unveiled NYIT-Nanjing Center for Humanities and Culture at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

“Cultural encounters and cultural enrichment will provide the key framework to help expand your knowledge base, craft ideas, and share them with local and global audiences,” NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., told students at the Center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning.

Ceremony attendees, including U.S. Consul General in Shanghai Robert Griffiths, explored the Center’s expansion of NUPT’s “English Corner,” which now boasts a 40-seat lounge and study center as well as an 80-inch display for movie screenings.  The renovations were made possible in part by a $100,000 grant awarded to NYIT by the U.S. Department of State and the American Embassy in Beijing.

Guiliano, a noted literary scholar who delivered the Center’s inaugural lecture last fall, emphasized NYIT’s partnership with NUPT as a point of pride, adding that the center will offer education and cultural enrichment that complement NYIT’s academic offerings in Nanjing.

“Maybe here at the center you will be introduced to a new concept that spawns a lifelong passion for a particular subject—and perhaps you will collaborate with a fellow student and your connections will lead to an innovative solution to a problem,” he said.

For more than 12 years, NYIT has maintained a presence in China through its programs, sites, and alumni base. NYIT was among the first universities to receive approval from the Ministry of Education to operate foreign degree programs in China. Since 2006, NYIT has offered undergraduate degree programs communication arts, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and international business administration in at the NYIT-NUPT campus in Nanjing.
